Breast cancer screening for younger women??
I had a hysterectomy age 23 and am now 26. I have been told I am at higher risk of breast cancer because of the HRT and hormone changes at my age etc but are there any screening opportunities for younger women? I do examine my breasts but don’t think I would be able to tell if I had a lump as they are quite lumpy and painful all the time.As far as I know mamagrams etc are only offered to women over 50. Any advise would be great. Thanks x
See your Gynecologist. He/She will examine your breast. If they feel that you need a mammogram you will be sent for one. Usually you get you first mammogram at age 35 and then again at 40, after that it should be done yearly. Since you are at higher risk, there is no reason why you should not be screened now. Your Dr will decide what is best for you. The lumpy sore breast you have now is what is referred to as Fibrocystic changes. This is very common in young women today.
