Missing NJ man found dead in burned-out car in NY woods (http://news.bostonherald.com/national/northeast/view.bg?articleid=193789)
RAMAPO, N.Y. - A man apparently burned to death in his car after his gas tank ruptured as he drove on a rough dirt road in the woods, police said Monday.
The dead man was not positively identified, but the car belonged to Francis McCloskey, 79, of Ringwood, N.J., who was reported missing on Saturday.
The Ringwood Police Department issued a statement saying, ”all initial indications are that the body in the vehicle probably is that of Francis McCloskey.”
The burned-out car was found Sunday by mountain bikers on a dirt road in a wooded area in Ramapo, N.Y., less than a quarter-mile from New Jersey’s Ringwood State Park, Ramapo police Lt. Brad Weidel said.
When the car was traced, McCloskey’s family told police that he made weekly visits to a clergyman friend who lived near the park. Police believe the driver got lost and found himself on the rough dirt roads, where his tires went flat.
”We found pieces of tire and even rims and saplings knocked over,” Weidel said. ”We found places where he bottomed out. ... These are dirt roads with rocks and gullies and ruts; you really need a four-wheel, like a truck.”
Driving on his rims, the man kept looking for a way out, police believe. Because the car was found on a mound in the middle of the trail, police said, it appears the gas tank ruptured and flames engulfed the car and driver.

What a moron, driving on flat tires, and no cell phone?
