Father charged with breaking baby boy’s bones (http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=182580)

BRENTWOOD, N.H. - The father of a baby boy who was hospitalized last summer with more than 24 broken bones has been indicted on five charges of first-degree assault, prosecutors said Monday.

Gurrie Fandozzi, 40, of Nashua, faces 10 to 30 years in prison on each count if convicted. He is accused of ”inflicting spinal fractures, arm fractures, leg fractures, rib fractures and a skull fracture” between June and August 2006, said Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams.

The boy was 6 months old when he was hospitalized Aug. 2 because he had stopped breathing. Authorities later removed him and his 3-year-old sister from their parents’ home in Windham.

Gurrie and Tammy Fandozzi are both lawyers. However, sometime after moving from Connecticut to New Hampshire in 2001, Gurrie Fandozzi became a stay-at-home father. Tammy Fandozzi does not face any charges, Reams said.

Defense attorney Steven Shadallah said in a statement that Fandozzi would never intentionally hurt his son. He said prosecutors are focusing on his client because he spent more time with the children than anyone else, but they have no real evidence against him.

”Fandozzi is a gentle, caring father who relished his role as a stay at home dad,” Shadallah said. ”The baby was seen by the family’s pediatrician at all regularly scheduled visits, including a visit the day before the child was rushed to the hospital. The pediatrician never noticed any evidence of broken bones, bruising or any other trauma.”

Reams said the charges were based on information gathered by doctors at Children’s Hospital in Boston, where the boy was taken after being evaluated at Parkland Medical Center in Derry.
