My search for kickass metal bands has really been taking me all over the globe here lately, and this week is no execption. The Spotlight falls on the British band Cursed As Angels today. Like in the US, England seems to be over run with same shitty boy bands, and wannabe hip-hoppers, but from what Ive been seeing there is still a major metal scene there in the birth place of Heavy Metal. Just as bands here in the US have had to fly the Metal flag during the dark times of whatever fad is hitting at the time, and wait them out like we always do. British Metal bands are doing the very same thing at the moment. One things for certain tho. Metal always comes out on top, and will never die!
I talked with CAA guitar player Paul McIntosh about all of this, and what is going on with CAA. Enjoy!
Me- When did you guys get together, and how did you all meet?
Paul-Me and Ian have been good friends for years, in early 2004 Ian met owen and started a band which was then known as 'We are the dead'' Paul Scott then joined on bass but moved on to guitar after they lost there other guitarist. Russ then replaced our departed drummer and the 4 of us started writing material under the new name Cursed As Angels. Paul Scott who originaly played bass for breif period rejoind the band in mid 2006 to complete the lineup.
Me- Who would you say is your biggest Metal influences?
Paul-Our influences are quite varied, it goes from one side of the spectrum to the other including the Smashing Pumpkins, Warrior Soul, and Perfect Circle being big influences we also take huge influence from Machinehead, Arch Enemy, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Soilwork and Paradise Lost.
Me- Cursed As Angels has a unique sound, how would you explain your music?
Paul-All though we have the whole heavy/meldoic thing in our sound I wouldnt say we tie in with whole metalcore thing, there are elements of it in our sound but with a bit of a Deftones edge and atmosphere to it.
Me- Being from the UK where Metal was born, whats the metal scene like there?
Paul-The UK metal scene isnt what it used be, metal isnt really that popular in this country if you look at it in statistics which is a shame because as far as bands go the scene here is very very strong there are some fucking amazing bands on the underground circuit in the UK but sadly this countrys whole music scene is dominated by Rnb, drum and bass, pop and all that shite.
Me- List any cds, demos, or Metal compilation cds that CAA has put out, or been apart of.
Paul-We have two EP's
This world we decieve part 1 &2
Me- Where do you guys see yourselves in 10 years musically?
Paul-Old? Its hard to say. To be signed and touring would be great but hopefully that wont take ten years to achieve
Me- Go ahead and list any gig/tour dates that CAA will be playing.
Paul-We will be playing our last gig of the year at the bull n vic's metal monday in Dartford Kent on the 18th of december, after that we are gonna go and record the new stuff we have been writing over the last few months, so we dont have any tours or shows planned for next year as of yet, but we will do soon
Me- If theres anything else about the band that you want to tell me, do it here. Like, big name bands that yall have played with, interesting factiods, your bands website and myspace, what kind of gear you guys endorse, anything you can think of that would make people want to hear your stuff. Go ahead and plug it now.
Paul-We havent played with anyone big yet we would love to say we have, at this point in time we are but a small humble band who have a better sound then most bands out there.
all the songs we have recorded can be herd on our website
www.cursedasangels.com
and our myspace address is

Well, there ya go Metalheads! Cursed As Angels to me sounds just as good if not better than any other band on the Metal cicuit these days, and why they arent signed as of yet I have no idea. I do know that one way to help them get that signing is for everyone to head on over to their page and add them as a friend and throw their tunes on your pages. Hey, you never know who may be looking at your page and they just might like what they hear from CAA. Lets give our Metal brothers from across the pond a hand and lend them our support!
