06 is just about behind us, and I couldnt think of a better way to get it the hell out of here other than by just giving you all one of the purest, truest, all out balls to the wall, unsigned Metal bands that Ive yet to come across! Now I know that when you think of West Virginia, Metal isnt the first thing that comes to mind, but after you read this interview, and checkout Into The Void, youll have a new found respect WV.
Into The Void Just caught me by surprise. After they contacted me on here and I listened to the song See You Pay, I was literally floored. You always see and hear about bands talking about their influences and what they mean to them, but rarely do they ever seem to use those influences. You listen to ITV and your gonna hear exactly where these guys came from musically! From the vocals and basslines, the riffs, and down to the beat. ITV mixes there their old school influences with a touch of new school Thrash and comes up with genious! I talked with guitar player Cody at length before this review and after about what ITV is all about, and Im totally floored with these guys. ITV is just down and dirty, good ol Thrash Metal. Hers what Cody had to say about ITV. Enjoy!
Me- When did you guys get together, and how did you all meet?
Cody-Well Cameron and I are brothers, and a local guitarist introduced us to Greg, after he broke Greg's drum sticks in a blind fury.
Me- Who would you say is your biggest metal influences?
Cody-Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Guns and Roses, Pantera, Alice and Chains, Black Label Society, Iron Maiden on and on and on.
Me- Into The Void has a unique sound, how would you explain your music?
Cody-We strive to make a different sound... I'd say classic Heavy Metal, with a punk influence would be the closest description.
Me- Being from West Virginia, whats the metal scene like there?
Cody-Good musicians but, it is tough to find venues and there is the constant fight against the small-town politics.
Me- List any cds, demos, or metal compilation cds that ITV has put out, or been apart of.
Cody-We have several demos but, we have two albums: Out of Your Element, and See You Pay.
There was also a video with our music (Enlightenment) set to a brutal catfight at a local school involving 3 girls.
We have been contacted for a few various compilation CDs. We will update you when they are released.
Me- Where do you guys see yourselves in 10 years musically?
Cody-Trying to get on the Real World or Survivor:Afghanistan, lots of eggs in that basket.
Our drummer wants to play Bulgarian folk music while the entire band strives to study the mating habits of ants.
Me- Go ahead and list any gig/tour dates that ITV will be playing.
Cody-We are off of our recent stint of 40+ shows and we are booking some stuff now. We will update you when the schedule is set.
Me- If theres anything else about the band that you want to tell me, do it here. Like, big name bands that yall have played with, interesting factiods, your bands website and myspace, what kind of gear you guys use, anything you can think of that would make people want to hear your stuff. Go ahead and plug it now.
Cody-We have played with the Murder Junkies and the Vampire Lesbos.
Our webstie is www.intothevoidtheband.com and our myspace: www.myspace.com/intothevoidtheband. For a complete equipment list check out our studio website at www.beyondsanityproductions.com.
For guitars Cody used a Gibson Sg into a Rockmaster Preamp and a Laney head. Various mics/preamps were used. Primary mic was a Sennhiser MD441 into one of our custom EF86 preamps, mixed with various other mics for different sounds/songs.
Cameron used a Rickenbacker into a vintage '73 SVT tube head for his bass rig. The bass sounds are a combo of DI and mic'ed sources.
Our drummer Greg plays a vintage Ludwig Vistalite kit, he cutsom assembled. Double 26" kick drums. Various mics were used combined with EF86 Tube pres for OH, modded Altec 1628a for Snare and some toms, Modded Bozak CMA-6-1 for some toms, and TL Audio with D112's for the kicks.
Most of the preamps used to mic cabs were hand built tube pres we designed. (Transformer coupled, EF86 and 12ax7 based, single ended.)
And there you have em kids! Just plain ol good no nonsence Metal! Theres got to be something seriously wrong with you if you have a listen to these guys and dont like them lol! But all kidding aside, I really dig these guys, and I think you all will to. So head on over to their page, give em a listen, put in a friend request, and help support ITV and the rest ofthe WV Metal scene.
