Were doing something a little different for this weeks 100 Proof Spotlight. The last few weeks Ive shown you bands from Maine, Massachusetts, and Tennessee, but this week Im gonna take you halfway around the world and into a different hemisphere to show you a killer band from New Zealand. The band, REMOTE. The music, FUCKING BADASS!!! These guys have been tearing it up for awhile now, but with their current lineup it looks like theyre ready to take it to the next level and your seeing and hearing them here 1st!

I talked with the newest member and drummer Nate. Yeah, finally someone other than a guitarist haha! Heres what he had to say about Remote:

Me- When did you guys get together, and how did you all meet?

Nate-The band as Remote has been around for about 10 years with varying lineups and a 3 year hiatus. Our current lineup has been together for about 1 year. Ant (Bass) and Andy (Vocals) have been jamming since high school, Joe and Gareth (both Guitars) were stolen from another band and I met the band through a Muso's wanted website that I advertised on about 2 years earlier ! haha

Me- Who would you say is your biggest metal influences?

Nate-That's a really tough one as we all have differing influences which a too vast and numerous to mention here. If you were to get each of us to list one of our influences then we would have Black Sabbath (Joe), Faith No More (Andy), Killswitch Engage (Ant), Superjoint Ritual (Gareth), and Deep Purple (myself).

Me- Remote has a unique sound, how would you explain your music?

Nate-I guess if we were to try and explain it then it would be Old School crossed with New School meets no frills aggressive Rock/Metal.

Me- Being from New Zealand, whats the metal scene like there?

Nate-The metal scene in NZ is very loyal ! There are some absolutely fantastic bands and talented musos in this country, and it's very inspiring. For a small country we fucking rock ! haha. What is also nice is to see more big name acts coming our way, and when they come over they do get a good turnout.

Me- List any cds, demos, or metal compilation cds that Remote has put out, or been apart of.

Nate-There have been a few compilations over the past few years that aren't really worth mentioning, but we are very close to completing our EP and are about to start writing for an album. Here is what we have so far :

(2004) - Remote Live @ The Rockbar (5-track EP)
(2006) - Remote Live @ Hysteria (DVD)
(2006) - Remote - Suffocate (3-track EP)

Me- Where do you guys see yourselves in 10 years musically?

Nate-Haha, we pretty much figure we will be a bunch of balding, overweight ex-rockers playing 50's and 60's cover songs to senior citizens in retirement homes ! Seriously though, we would love to be writing/recording/gigging and hopefully making a living out of it. We all love what we do !

Me- Go ahead and list any gig/tour dates that Remote will be playing.

Nate-At this stage we have a gig at Hysteria on Dec 2nd with Just One Fix, Wrath, and World War IV. We will be taking a bit of time off over Xmas/New Years with an outdoor street gig in late Jan. For Feb we are going to embark on a "mini-tour" playing elsewhere in the country, and we haven't thought too much further ahead than that at this stage.

Me- If theres anything else about the band that you want to tell me, do it here. Like, big name bands that yall have played with, interesting factiods, your bands website and myspace, what kind of gear you guys endorse, anything you can think of that would make people want to hear your stuff. Go ahead and plug it now.

Nate-Well none of us at this stage are endorsing any brands, but we do proudly use the following :

Nate : Tama Drums, Aquarian Drumheads, Promark Sticks, DW Pedals, and Paiste Cymbals.

Ant : Carvin Amps and Spector Basses

Joe : Marshall Amps and Gibson Guitars

Gareth : Mesa Boogie Amps and Gibson Guitars

Andy : Shure Mics

Some interesting facts about some of the members of Remote ??? Well I run a drumshop. Andy is a co-owner of one of NZ's only exclusive Rock/Metal bars (www.myspace.com/hysteria_bar), and we have a Professional Recording Engineer and Professional Live Sound Engineer in the band. As answered about we are about to start writing material for an upcoming album. Most of the band have their own myspace pages, so if anyone wants to check them out, please feel free !

Nate : www.myspace.com/paradiddlemadness
Andy : www.myspace.com/andy_remote (oooh original !haha)
Ant : www.myspace.com/uromi
Joe : www.myspace.com/audiowerxstudio

Gareth is too cool to have a myspace page apparently haha!

On a more serious note, if anybody is coming to NZ, let us know, and come see us play - we'd love to see you !

Well, I know for sure that when that pile of money finally falls in my lap so we can get down there, Ill definatly be hitting you up Nate and we'll be hanging out.
I just want to say thanx to Nate and the rest of the guys for getting this together so quickly. Being on the other side of the globe with the massive time change to here can get things confused, so heres to ya guys!

I highly recomend ya'll go check these guys out and show em some love by adding them as a friend and downloading their music to your pages.
